Choosing the Right Ottoman Table

Are you looking to incorporate a ottoman table set inside your living room? Before doing so you must look into some peripheral details which play an important part in choosing the right kind of table for your home. Most homes nowadays have the quintessential ottoman table on which they perform a variety of tasks.

Some people like to rest their legs on the table after a long day of work. Watching television with a cold beer in hand and legs propped up on the ottoman table can be quite comforting after a grueling day.

Others like to read the newspaper by spreading it on the table and pouring over it. News reading enthusiast will tell you that the ottoman table is as important as the newspaper itself in their daily schedule.

In all this you will notice that most activities pertaining to the these tables have nothing to do with drinking ottoman. In fact it is often noticed that most homes have ottoman tables from which hardly anyone drinks ottoman. Therefore, the beverage has little to do with the functionality of the table.

Choosing the Appropriate Style and Design

These tables can be made of wood, glass or metal. Depending on one’s personal choice, a table set can be constructed in various shapes and designs. Of course, there are some default styles to choose from. The round ottoman table is the most common shape. However, you can buy a rectangular or square table for your living room as well. There are triangular ones available as well. If you don’t like any of the shapes available in the shops you can have one custom-made for your home. Although this will always be more expensive than ready-made designs, those who are passionate about home decorations will not mind spending the extra buck.

You can customize an existing table by painting on it. Or you can spread a nice ottoman table cover to add something to the look. Make sure you use coasters to place cups on them to avoid spoiling the table surface or the spread.

Ottoman Coffee Tables

The Ottoman is typically used as a footstool or sitting stool, but another purpose could be to use it as a coffee table. It makes a soft, unique table. It is a great choice for the not-so-typical house.

Because the ottoman is made out of soft material instead of wood like most tables, it is the safe choice for families with young children. It is the best option for families with young children who are just learning to walk. When toddlers are just learning to walk, or older children not paying attention, they often bump into things accidentally. Most often that piece of furniture is a table. Using the ottoman as a table will not cause bumps or bruises like the traditional wooden table would. Parents may think the ottoman would not be a good table because it is not a hard surface and can not hold drinks. A serving tray not only solves this problem, but adds even more style to the room.

Using the ottoman as a table serves many purposes. In a pinch it can also be used as a stool or chair. At some point, everyone is in need of extra seating. Most often extra seating is needed when there are guest and typically a folding chair is used in that situation. The ottoman is a great alternative to a folding chair. The folding chair is usually not as attractive as the ottoman and is probably not as soft either. Another way to use the ottoman would be as a footstool. If the furniture in the room does not have a built in foot rest, the ottoman can serve as a footstool.

Yet another great use for the ottoman would be to use it as hidden storage. Big or small, every house and room could use additional storage. Items such as games, pillows or blankets could be stored in the ottoman. This is a great place for things that would be used while entertaining guests. That way the host does not have to go into another room to get a game or open the unorganized closet to pull out a game, just open up the ottoman and there they are. Not all ottomans have the option of storing things so be sure to consider whether or not that is of high importance when purchasing one.

A Coffee Ottoman Table

Coffee Table Ottomans

Technically a coffee table is not an ottoman. Coffee tables are like miniature desks that are closer to the ground. They are often used as a place to store magazines, beverages, or whatever small item you have laying around in the living room. Usually, feet isn’t included in the list of items stored on a coffee table. Some coffee tables have a storage compartment built in where you can store additional items. An ottoman is similiar to a coffee table, but the main difference is the use. Ottoman’s are for your feet! They are usually upholstered in a durable material and padded. There are ottomans designed for specific sofas or chairs.

Now that you know the distinction between the two you can still use your coffee table as an ottoman or your ottoman as a coffee table. It’s your piece of furniture, do what you will with it. Coffee Table Ottomans are designed as a hybrid of the two. That way you get the best of both worlds. Keep in mind that each piece of furniture is unique. If you are searching for one with an extra storage cabinet, a leather fabric, a stained wood surface, or any other type, you can find that specific one you need.

Home Elegance 3219PU-01 ROUND CKTL TBL W/ 4 OTTOMANS – My wife and just received this table a couple of days ago. Very sturdy construction. Easy to assemble in less than an hour. When we purchased it my wife was very concerned because there are no dimensions listed on amazon. The table is 40 inches in diameter. 19 inches tall. It’s perfect with our new sectional. Also, the picture on amazon shows only two pull out stools. The actual table has 4 stools. Everything else is as pictured. We love it.
